Hello,
The Winter Olympics start in less than a month, and we plan to make the most of the increased attention on our sport! Over the next month, Cedar Rapids Curling will start showing up on billboards along Blairs Ferry Road and Collins Road, posters in Iowa City buses, banners inside ImOn Ice Arena, social media advertising, and more.
We also will be hosting media outlets during league and learn-to-curl events, starting with NBC affiliates KWQC tonight and KWWL on Jan. 27. Be loud and have fun for the cameras!
We have SO MUCH going on in the next month, including a Olympic curling watch party co-hosted by Cedar Rapids Curling and Big Grove Brewery in Iowa City! Read on and learn how you can join in all the fun and help grow our sport!
Let's watch Olympic curling together
Big Grove Brewery in Iowa City is welcoming us to watch Olympic curling on their giant screen!
Join us at noon Sunday, Feb. 15, to watch the USA men's team take on Norway. Spread the word and bring your family and friends!
We will have floor curling going on for you and others to play, and we will be answering questions and talking about how people can try curling on actual ice.
Help spread the word of upcoming events
We need your help promoting our Olympic season learn-to-curl events and mini-camps. We'd love it if you'd share the fun with friends on your social media channels. Feel free to steal the below image if that helps!

Help with keg curling!
House Divided Brewery, owned by curler Cal Corrin, is hosting a keg curling activity during a period break of the 6 p.m. Feb. 7 RoughRiders game. He needs our help facilitating the activity. Cedar Rapids Curling also will staff a table in the concourse marketing the club's upcoming learn-to-curl events. Register and come on out. It should be fun!
The first six people to sign up to volunteer will get in free, and we will have a discount code for any others who sign up.

Help high schoolers learn physics through curling
A group of Iowa City West High students will be using curling to learn physics concepts from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 9 at the arena.
We are looking for volunteers to help set up and assist. There will be two groups of students coming in and we will provide a 30-minutes lesson for each group. Then, they will conduct experiements of their own design, during which we'll just help if needed.
We're really excited about this partnership and hope you all can help us make it a great event!

Help us teach new curlers during the Olympic rush
We will host multiple large-scale learn-to-curl events during and shortly after the Winter Olympics. And if we get the number of participants we have seen in the past during the Olympics, we will need all the volunteers we can get!
Don't forget, members who volunteer at six events during the 2025-26 season will be exempt from a league fee increase for the 2026-27 season. To be counted as a volunteer at an event, you MUST sign up to volunteer on the website prior to the event.

Join Des Moines for a friendly at Owatonna Curling Club
Owatonna Curling Club in southern Minnesota is hosting a friendly Saturday, Feb. 21, between neighboring(ish) clubs: Cedar Rapids Curling and Des Moines Curling Club. This friendly will take place between 9:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. (with a break for lunch and Olympic game viewing party).
Friendlies are an opportunity for club members to enjoy a day of curling on dedicated ice and to make new friends. These events are open to everyone, from beginner to advanced curler, and typically consists of two to three short games, each followed by broomstacking. Host clubs usually have sliders, stabilizers, and brooms to borrow if you do not have your own, but check with Kari Kozak (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) if you have concerns. You can sign up as a team or as an individual and we will form a team for you.
The cost is $30 per curler, which pays for ice rental and pizza and snacks. Beverages will be on your own.
Free bonspiel for CRC members
The Midwest Curling Association hosts several bonspiels throughout the year that are FREE for Cedar Rapids Curling members. These are great opportunities to play on dedicated ice.
The 79th annual Dar Curtis Bonspiel will be Feb. 28-March 1 at Exmoor Country Club. Teams in the Dar Curtis must consist of two players with five or fewer years experience curling and two players with six or more years experience.
Learn more and register at the MCA website.
If you're looking for team members, throw a thread on the Cedar Rapids CC Virtual Warm Room Facebook group page or chat with people at league!
Call for CedarSpiel committee members
Our 2026 CedarSpiel in August will be here before you know it!
If you want to be part of the planning process, email Kari Kozak (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). We want to get the ball rolling, so don't wait! This is a great opportunity for newer club members to see and help behind the scenes.
Want to join the CRC Board of Directors? Of course you do!
Six two-year positions on the Board of Directors are up for election this year by the general membership. The Board meets once a month and establishes policies, appoints officers and committee chairs, and sets goals to accomplish Cedar Rapids Curling’s mission.
Joining the board is a great opportunity to serve and help guide the club through the exciting growth that we expect to experience in the next few years. Significant curling skill or experience is NOT required, and having newer members actually is desirable.
For more information about what is involved, ask any current board member. You can learn more about the current board members here.
To nominate yourself or another CRC member, email Phil Burian (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) by Feb. 28.
Members will receive an email with a link to vote for board members on March 17. Voting is anonymous and will remain open until March 31. Our new members will join the board in May.
Spring league registration open
Our 5-week spring league will be from 6:45 to 9:15 p.m. Tuesdays, March 24-April 28.
Registration closes March. 10.
Cedar Rapids Curling on the road
We don't have a photo, but congratulations to Parker, whose team made it to the semifinals of the Big Spiel, where 96 teams faced off at five clubs in the Twin Cities!
Two other Cedar Rapids Teams -- Bob, Kirby, Phil, and Mark, and Cale, Emily, Beth, and Greg -- also joined the fun at the Big Spiel.
