Newsletter - November 2023

Hello,

We want to offer a huge congratulations to Greg Schmitt, Stephen Spence, Parker Abbott, and Cale Tesch for winning the bronze medal at the 2023 USA Curling Arena National Championships held Nov 9-12 in Eveleth, Minn.!

Team Tesch went 5-1 over the week, with both losses (one in pool play and one in the semifinals) to DFW Curling Club who went on to win the championship for the fourth consecutive year. They played great games that had us at home cheering while watching the livestreams.

We're just so proud of them! Fantastic curling, guys!

Save the date -- Dec. 15 -- to celebrate our team!

The Iowa Heartlanders will honor Cale, Parker, Stephen, and Greg's bronze medal by having the team drop the ceremonial puck at its Dec. 15 game at Xtream Arena in Coralville.

Mark your calendar to come cheer them on! We'll update everyone with additional information if and when we have it.

Do you want to look like a winner?

Do you like what our bronze medalists are wearing? Team Tesch worked with Dynasty Curling to design these great tops--and soon you can have your own.

We are working to set up an ordering process to reduce costs so sit tight and stay tuned!

Winter league registration open

Our eight-week winter league will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 16 to March 19. The number of byes will be dependent on registration numbers.

Registration closes Jan. 9.

Do you want to give Arena Nationals--or another national event--a try?

Were you inspired by how our men's team represented Cedar Rapids Curling and the Midwest Curling Association at the National Arena Curling Championships in Eveleth, Minn.? These events are great ways to get national championship experience and meet curlers from across the country.

There are four opportunities for Cedar Rapids Curling members to play in a national event: Club National Championships, Mixed National Championships, Arena National Championships, and 5-and-Under National Championships.

The MCA will host playdowns to choose the teams that will represent them. Dates have been set for two playdowns (Jan 26-28 for Club Nationals; Feb. 9-11 for Mixed Nationals). We expect dates for Arena and 5-and-under to be later in the spring.

If you are interested in playing in any of these playdowns, start talking to fellow members about putting together a team and perhaps signing up to play together in winter league in order to practice together. Once you have a team, let Phil Burian know at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

FREE bonspiel for CRC members

The Midwest Curling Association hosts several bonspiels throughout the year that are FREE for Cedar Rapids Curling members. These are great opportunities to play on dedicated ice.

The 78th annual Dar Curtis Bonspiel will be Dec. 16-17 at Exmoor Country Club. The Dar Curtis is meant for players to currently curl as leads or twos or newer vice skips to allow them a chance to curl with their peers and try out their own strategies in a fun environment. Find more information.

If you're looking for team members, throw a thread on the Cedar Rapids CC Virtual Warm Room Facebook group page or chat with people at league!
