We had a great time at the Cedar Rapids Curling member meeting and picnic on July 16. If you weren't able to make it, catch up on all the news you missed!
It's also time to start signing up for 2023/24 curling events. We'll be back on the ice before you know it!
Welcome to our new board members
We have two new members on our Cedar Rapids Board of Directors: Nate Marzen and David Sibert.
Congratulate them the next time you see them! They will each serve a two-year term.
Thank you to our outgoing board members
We have two board members who are leaving the board after finishing their latest terms: Phil Engen and Byran Coster.
Phil Engen has been on the board for a decade, pretty much since it started. Many of us in the club were taught to curl by Phil at an instructional league. The club wouldn't be what it is without him and we recognized his long service on the board at the picnic with a plaque.
Bryan Coster has been an amazing board member the last two years, serving as our membership development coordinator.
Don't worry, Phil and Bryan aren't going anywhere. You'll still see them on the ice and teaching our new curlers. So may sure you tell them thank you for their service to Cedar Rapids Curling!
Honoring a wonderful friend of Cedar Rapids Curling
You may not have met Greg Burian, but you likely have seen him around at Cedar Rapids Curling events. And you certainly have benefited from his work.
Greg (brother of CRC Board President Phil Burian), has been instrumental for Cedar Rapids Curling behind the scenes for years. Whenever we need need something engineered or built, it's Greg that we turn to. We wouldn't have all the wonderful stone carts or walk-in freezer or storage hut or ice scraper and on and on and on if it weren't for him.
We honored Greg's contributions to the club at the picnic with a plaque.
Next time you see Greg around, thank him for all that he does for us!
Membership and league dues to remain the same for 2023/24
While ice costs at ImOn Arena are rising this season, the Board has decided to freeze fees for the upcoming season. They will reevaluate again next year.

New USA Curling membership model
You may have seen an email from USA Curling outlining their new membership model. Cedar Rapids Curling members do not have to do anything new regarding USA Curling.
Member fees for Cedar Rapids Curling includes membership in USA Curling, Midwest Curling Association, and United States Women's Curling Association (for women members and men who want to join).
Help needed at Farmers Market
Cedar Rapids Curling will have a booth at the Cedar Rapids Farmers Market on Aug. 5.
We will have a tent with a table full of curling items for people to check out, balloons for the kids (and adults), and hopefully our street curling set so people can "throw a stone."
We need volunteers. It will be a great time to hang out together and share our sport with our community outside the ice!
Volunteers, food, raffle baskets needed for CedarSpiel
We’re excited about CedarSpiel coming back Aug. 11-13 in full for the first time since 2019! This is our biggest event of the year and there are many ways you can help out. We will need raffle baskets, food donations for a picnic Saturday night at Cherry Hill Park, volunteers for the event, borrowed yard games for the weekend, and more.
To donate food/raffle baskets, sign up to volunteer, and lend yard games, please go to the associated tab (Saturday Dinner, Raffle Baskets, Event Volunteer, Yard Games) on this spreadsheet.
