Hello,
Happy 2025! It's going to be a great curling year!
Talk to your team about helping with LTCs during bye weeks
League starts next week, Tuesday, Jan. 21, and you will be receiving an email today with your team and schedule.
As we did in the fall, we are holding back a sheet or two on a few Tuesdays for small learn-to-curl events.
If you have a bye, we ask that one or two team members volunteer for the learn to curl or to help with instructional league. Next time your team has a bye, a different member can assist and you can take a night off or sub in league as always.
Dakota Curling Supplies Mobile Shop to visit league night
The Dakota Curling Supplies Mobile Shop will stop by ImOn Ice Arena during league Tuesday, Feb. 4. This is your chance to buy your first broom or shoes or to replace supplies that are wearing out, such as grippers. Check out their products here.
Cedar Rapids Curling receives 7% in-store credit for all sales while they are here. We use these funds for things like new equipment or prizes.
Holiday hint idea: Ask family members for gift cards to get new equipment while they are here!
Want to get on dedicated ice? Here's your chance
Two regional curling clubs have invited us to friendies this winter and spring!
Friendlies are an opportunity for club members to enjoy a day of curling on dedicated ice and to make new friends. These events are open to everyone, from beginner to advanced curler, and typically consists of two to three short games, each followed by broomstacking.
Host clubs usually have basic sliders, stabilizers and brooms to borrow if you do not have your own, but check with a Cedar Rapids Curling officer if you have concerns. The cost varies by event. - Owatonna Curling (Owatonna, MN): March 8, noon to 7 p.m., cost TBD (likely around $20) Des Moines Curling Club may also join. Register now
Volunteer at upcoming events
There are a few upcoming opportunities to volunteer and help our club grow. We are especially excited to host an event for Wounded Warrior on Feb. 21!
Please help where you can; it really takes a village to make this all happen.
- Friday, Feb. 21 (Wounded Warrior event): 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, March 18 (learn to curl): 6:45 to 9:15 p.m.
(You must be logged in to see the volunteer sign-ups and to register.)
Call for CedarSpiel committee members
Our 2025 CedarSpiel in August will be here before you know it!
If you want to be part of the planning process, email Kari Kozak (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). We want to get the ball rolling, so don't wait! This is a great opportunity for newer club members to see and help behind the scenes.
Do you want to give Arena Nationals - or another national event - a try?
Were you inspired by how our men's team represented Cedar Rapids Curling and the Midwest Curling Association at the USA Curling Arena National Curling Championships this fall in Wausau, Wisconsin? These events are great ways to get national championship experience and meet curlers from across the country.
You do NOT need to have a ton of experience to try these events. We have had members with less than a year of curling under their belts compete!
There are four opportunities for Cedar Rapids Curling members to play in a national event: Club National Championships, Mixed National Championships, Arena National Championships, and 5-and-Under National Championships.
The MCA will host playdowns to choose the teams that will represent them. Dates have been set for two playdowns (Jan 23-26 at Exmoor Curling for Club Nationals; Feb. 14-15 at Chicago Curling Club for Mixed Nationals). We expect dates for Arena playdowns to be later in the spring.
To vie for a spot in the 5-and-Under National Championships scheduled for April 30-May 4, 2025, at the Saint Paul Curling Club, USA Curling has selected 23 five-and-under bonspiels to will serve as qualifier events. Find the list here.
If you are interested in playing in any of these playdowns, start talking to fellow members about putting together a team and perhaps signing up to play together in winter league in order to practice together. Once you have a team, let Phil Burian know at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Cedar Rapids Curling on the road
Cedar Rapids Curling members Kirby and Mark, along with friends Mark and Brian, made it to the 7th event semifinals of the Big Spiel in the Twin Cities. Great curling, guys!
