Newsletter - November 2025

Hello,

It's been a busy start to our 2025-26 season and there is plenty more fun on the way!

NOTE: There will be NO CURLING on Nov. 25, the week of Thanksgiving. Enjoy the holiday week!

Come together FRIDAY to cheer on teams vying to go to the Olympics

The USA Olympic Trials are taking place this week for curling, and we're getting together to cheer the teams on. Cedar Rapids Curling member Cal Corrin is kindly hosting a watch party at his Ely establishment, House Divided Brewery!

Start gathering at 6:30 p.m. Friday for the 7 p.m. game, which will feature the men's finalists in the first game of a best-of-three series.

The address for House Divided Brewery is 1620 Dows St., Ely. See you there!

A message from the board: Curling is for everyone

This fall, USA Curling informed its member clubs that it has revised its Transgender Participation Policy in response to a mandate from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

Cedar Rapids Curling stands in full support of our transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming curlers. We remain committed to upholding the Spirit of Curling and our club’s core values, which includes being welcoming to all individuals regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, or ability.

Despite changes at national and international competitions, Cedar Rapids Curling will continue to remain open and encouraging to all individuals during our learn-to-curl events, leagues, and bonspiels. Discrimination or harassment toward any members or guests will not be tolerated.

Sincerely,

Cedar Rapids Curling Board

Free bonspiels for CRC members

The Midwest Curling Association hosts several bonspiels throughout the year that are FREE for Cedar Rapids Curling members. These are great opportunities to play on dedicated ice.

The MCA will host a 5&Under Dec. 5-7 at Windy City Curling Club. This is for those of you who have curled five year or less. Have fun with newer curlers!

 Register now

The 79th annual Dar Curtis Bonspiel will be Feb. 28-March 1 at Exmoor Country Club. Teams in the Dar Curtis must consist of two players with five or fewer years experience curling and two players with six or more years experience. Check the MCA website for updates and registration for the Dar Curtis.

If you're looking for team members, throw a thread on the Cedar Rapids CC Virtual Warm Room Facebook group page or chat with people at league!

Volunteers needed for corporate event

We are hosting our first corporate event of the season from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9. Corporate events are one of the primary ways that Cedar Rapids Curling makes money, and we can't do it without volunteers! If you can help, we'd appreciate it. Even if you don't feel comfortable teaching, we always need people to help set up and herd rocks and help everyone have fun!

Help high schoolers learn physics through curling

A group of Iowa City West High students will be using curling to learn physics concepts from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 9 at the arena.

We are looking for volunteers to help set up and assist. There will be two groups of students coming in and we will provide a 30-minutes lesson for each group. Then, they will conduct experiements of their own design, during which we'll just help if needed.

We're really excited about this partnership and hope you all can help us make it a great event!

Do you love making content for social media? We want your help

With the Winter Olympics coming up, we are looking to boost our social media presence. Do you love keeping up with trends and have ideas for how to use them or want to come up with new ways to improve curling awareness and share Cedar Rapids Curling's story with the wider community? Bonus points if you have experience beating the algorithm and cutting through the noise!

If so, Emily Nelson would LOVE your help! Talk to her at league or email her at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Continue getting in your volunteer hours

Members who volunteer at six events during the upcoming 2025-26 season will be exempt from a league fee increase the following 2026-27 season.

To be counted as a volunteer at an event, you MUST sign up to volunteer on the website prior to the event. Some longer events will count as multiple events. We will indicate this on the sign-up page.

If you want to verify how many events you have volunteered at, email Cale Tesch at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

If your team is on a bye during instructional league, we ask that you discuss with your team if one or two of you would be willing to volunteer that night. Don't forget to sign up!

  • Instructional league: Oct. 18, March 24, March 31, April 14, April 21
  • Learn-to-Curl events: Feb. 17, Feb. 24, March 3, March 7

We will host multiple large-scale learn-to-curl events in the winter to coincide with the Winter Olympics. And if we get the number of participants we have seen in the past during the Olympics, we will need all the volunteers we can get!

Cedar Rapids Curling on the road

Two Cedar Rapids Curling teams (Michael, Mac, Claire, and Molly; and Kari, Steve, Andy, and Cale) traveled to Chicago for the Prairie State Challenge at Exmoor Country Club and Chicago Curling Club.

Lynn joined her sister and other Madison friends at the Schmecken Spiel at Madison, where they won the A event!
